Professors Bernard Amadei and Karl Linden have accepted roles as the new faculty co-directors of the Mortenson Center in Engineering for Developing Communities (MCEDC), effective July 1. Joining them will be Assistant Professor Amy Javernick-Will as associate director for graduate education and research, and scholar-in-residence Rita Klees as associate director for outreach.

In their roles as co-directors, Amadei will lead efforts to expand MCEDC’s undergraduate education and outreach initiatives within the college, while Linden will lead expansion of graduate education and research initiatives. Javernick-Will will conduct research and assessment projects to improve and increase the visibility of MCEDC’s graduate education and research. Klees will expand her previous teaching responsibilities to include teaching the three core Engineering for Developing Communities certificate courses in Sustainable Community Development, as well as developing strategic partnerships for practicum placements and job networks for program graduates.

The new leadership team replaces former faculty director Paul Chinowsky, who accepted a position as the Associate Vice Provost of Student Success for CU-Boulder. The leadership team also replaces the prior Executive Committee that consisted of faculty representatives from disciplinary groups with EDC students. The incoming leadership team would like to thank Chinowsky and the Executive Committee members for their service to the program over the past three years.
