Rachel (Lavine) Lee, AIA, is a licensed architect, educator in the Program in Environmental Design at CU Boulder and a residential architectural consultant. With a rich educational background from Tulane University’s School of Architecture, she has further enhanced her expertise through a transformative year at the Glasgow School of Architecture and a semester with the Anglo-American Research Project in Pompeii, Italy. Recently, Rachel completed a 72-hour Permaculture Design Course, deepening her understanding of land and design systems to better serve both human and ecological communities. Additionally, she serves on the Boulder County Planning Commission, where she holds a two-year appointment (2024-2026).

In her professional capacity, Rachel excels at navigating the complexities of jurisdictional criteria, including historic preservation and land conservation, across both small cities and larger counties. Her teaching focuses primarily on architectural courses, particularly in foundational and first-year design pedagogy, which she continually evolves in the first-year architectural design studio that she coordinates. Rachel also teaches EPOD courses and specializes in architectural software, notably Revit.

Rachel believes that teaching should reflect our most passionate pursuits and interconnected interests. Beyond her professional and academic roles, she engages in a variety of creative endeavors, including homesteading, animal husbandry, ceramics, fiber arts, baking, woodworking, clothing design, and permaculture design. Her multifaceted approach enriches her teaching and her contributions to the community.
