Position

Sidewalk Poets Internship Job Description:

The nonprofit, Sidewalk Poets, is looking for two interns to help with marketing, including social media, newsletters, website content and more; grant writing support; typing, editing and layout/design for several chapbook publications; donor thank you contacts; and (potentially) help organizing with story/art installation projects.

Overview

鶹Ƶ Sidewalk Poets:

Sidewalk Poets provides free self-empowerment and healing-based creative writing, storytelling and arts workshops to underserved and under-resourced communities, including newcomer, refugee and immigrant youth, families and women; kids in Title I schools; people dealing with homelessness and poverty; people impacted by the criminal justice system with substance misuse and mental health challenges; people in recovery; teen mothers; pregnant and postpartum people in recovery; and more.

Through these workshops, emerging writers from underrepresented backgrounds gain resources, tools and opportunities to share their voices, activate self-confidence, process the past, and receive support to enrich and empower their communities. Using words and images from workshops, we publicly showcase personal and collective stories through art installations, to leave behind echoes that infuse the community with collective history, story and art.

We work with youth and adults from historically underserved backgrounds: 83% of our participants qualify for free/reduced lunch, 85% identify as BIPOC, and 69% identify as multilingual learners.
