It's a complex problem that CU Boulder alumnus Abigale Stangl has been working to untangle for years.
- Haichao Wu of the Dan Schwartz Group is the winner of the College of Engineering and Applied Science’s 2021 Outstanding Dissertation Award for “Nanoparticle Tracking to Probe Transport in Porous Media.” This award is a recognition of the quality and excellence of Wu’s research as well as his presentation of the dissertation.
- Juan Carlos Tiznado (PhDCivEngr’20) is the lead author on a new paper in the Journal of Geotechnical and Geoenvironmental Engineering that helps engineers better understand and predict the “liquefaction” hazard during earthquakes and more reliably mitigate it.

- Rachel Klein (ApMath’07) has been a dedicated volunteer to the College of Engineering and Applied Science for over two years. She received her degree from Applied Mathematics and has provided countless alumni and students with a unique and inspiring perspective on what it means to be an Engineering Buff.
- Chern-Hooi Lim (PhDChemEngr’15) is the founder and CEO of New Iridium, a spinoff company created by research conducted in part in the Department of Chemical and Biological Engineering. He was recently selected for C&EN’s Talented 12, a program that honors young chemists and chemical engineers who are bringing innovation and entrepreneurship to bear on pressing global issues.
- Sam Goodman (ChemEngr’16) was selected as one of two Outstanding Mentor Award winners for the Spring 2021 semester for his work with sophomore Abigail Hutabarat.
- Alumnus Jason Burdick (PhDChemEngr’02) will return as faculty in the Department of Chemical and Biological Engineering early next year, becoming the first Bowman Endowed Professor.
