CU Engineering Through the Years
1893
The School of Applied Science is founded, offering degrees in civil and electrical engineering.
1897
ÌýFrederick W. Whiteside is the college’s first graduate, in civil engineering.
1898
First engineering building is dedicated, where Norlin Library stands today.
1902
Ìý Mechanical engineering established. First Engineers Ball held.
1903
Minnette E. Frankeberger is the first female graduate, in civil engineering. Mechanical engineering established. First Engineers Ball held.
1904
Chemical engineering degrees established.
1906
Name changes from School of Applied Science to College of Engineering.
1925
Architectural engineering established.
1934
Engineering teams with business school for concurrent degree.
1943
BS in aeronautical engineering added to meet wartime demands.
1957
Applied Math degree launched. 1963 Aerospace Engineering Sciences Department established.
1966
Current Engineering Center is completed.Ìý
1980
Computer Science joins College of Engineering.
1997
Integrated Teaching Laboratory (ITLL) established. Kalpana Chawla (PhDAeroEngr’88) becomes first Indian woman in space.
2009
The BOLD (Broadening Opportunity through Leadership and Diversity) Center created.
2012
Jennie Smoly Caruthers Biotechnology Building is completed.Ìý
2017
Ground is broken for a new aerospace building on East Campus. ATLAS Institute joins the college.
