CEAS Student News - Student Newsletter 2.9.2021

Consider nominating yourself or a fellow student who is graduating with their bachelor鈥檚 degree in May or August 2021 for a College of Engineering and Applied Science听award! The college has revamped undergraduate awards bestowed at graduation to better align and represent the current values of the college and promote themes among the student body. Current awards include:

Academic Engagement Award - This award recognizes students engaged with academics to an extent that elevates their own and/or others鈥� learning experiences.听

Community Impact Award - This award recognizes students who contribute to improving their department/program, college, university听and/or community.听

Global Engagement Award - This award recognizes students who are globally engaged in areas such as research, service, professional work, study abroad, Engineers Without Borders, Engineering for Developing Communities, Global Engineering, etc.听

JEDI (Justice, Equity, Diversity听& Inclusion) Award - This award recognizes students who make substantive contributions to JEDI work on- or off-campus.听

Research Award - This award recognizes students with demonstrated excellence in research.听

Persistence Award - This award recognizes students who persevere despite hardship.听

Wellness Award - This award recognizes students who cultivate and promote individual and community health and wellness.听

Outstanding Undergraduate of the College Award - This award recognizes one undergraduate student who has maximized their educational experience in a holistic way, demonstrating accomplishment across several of the award areas mentioned above.

Please review the criteria associated with each award听and consider 听by Wednesday, Feb. 17 if someone who is graduating comes to mind (self-nominations are allowed). If the nominee wishes to be considered for a particular award, they will need to provide further materials to complete their nomination.听The nominee鈥檚 major department/program will also need to endorse the student鈥檚 nomination for the particular award.听 Awardees will be notified by April and be announced by the college.

Returning on Campus

We are excited to see more of you back on campus with in-person classes returning Monday, Feb. 15 as planned. Be sure to check with your instructor for a detailed course schedule for any in-person activities.

Emergency grants available for international students

If you are an international student experiencing an unexpected financial emergency unrelated to COVID-19, ISSS encourages you to apply for an emergency financial grant.

If your financial emergency is related to COVID, please apply to the Student Emergency Fund听through CU Boulder Student Affairs.

Emergency Financial Grant awards vary according to available funds and demonstrated need. Unfortunately due to limited resources, not all applicants will receive a grant.

Could you use help with organization or developing effective study strategies? .

Peer Academic Coaches are engineering students trained in learning and priority management. They can help you explore tools and strategies to use for your engineering assignments, projects and preparing for exams.

Academic Success Workshop

Thriving in math: Learning strategies and study skills for your math course

Join us for a 1-hour Zoom workshop on Thursday, Feb. 18 at 6:30 p.m. to learn strategies for success for your math classes! Designed by an applied math instructor, this workshop presents techniques and strategies you can use in any math course.

Student panel on Medical Scientist Training Program听

MD/PhD students from University of Colorado Anschutz Medical Scientist Training Program are hosting a panel discussion from 6-8 p.m. March 23.

Current MD/PhD students from the Anschutz School of Medicine will answer questions about why they choose a combined degree program, what a day in the life of an student is like, and what makes an application competitive for this and other MD/PhD programs.
