Engineering and Applied Science classrooms, labs and design complexes house architecturally distinctive working and learning spaces that facilitate collaboration among all of our engineering disciplines on major advances in:

The Blow Things Up Lab, located in the Atlas Building, is a place for experimentation and hacking. The lab wears three hats: a student hackerspace, a residency for ATLAS graduate student desks, and at times, a classroom. Lab membership is open to students from all fields of study.

Completed in 2019, CU Boulder's 180,000 sq. ft. dedicated aerospace building contains unique laboratory facilities, collaborative research environments, and immersive educational opportunities. Colorado is a hub of our nation's aerospace industry, and this facility further positions CU Boulder at the center of the innovation ecosystem.
In 2012, Chemical and Biological Engineering moved into a state-of-the-art, interdisciplinary facility on East Campus. The 330,000-square-foot Jennie Smoly Caruthers Biotechnology Building facilitates collaboration between faculty in engineering and life sciences and is one of the pillars of the Bio-Frontiers Institute. This institute builds on CU Boulder鈥檚 advances in biology that diagnose, treat, and prevent disease.
We are the BTU Lab, and we Blow Things Up. Really. The BTU Lab, located in the Atlas Building, is a place for experimentation and hacking. We make science fiction science fact and vice versa. The BTU Lab wears three hats: A student hackerspace, a residency for ATLAS graduate student desks, and at times, a classroom. The lab operates within the ATLAS Institute, but application for lab membership is open to individuals from all fields of study. Because the lab is volunteer-run and due to the volume of applicants, it may take a month to hear back regarding your application.
The Engineering Center at is located at the corner of Colorado Avenue and Regent Drive, where it marks the eastern gateway to the Boulder campus. The center comprises 660,000 square feet of classrooms, computing facilities, faculty offices, and research laboratories in an architecturally distinctive and thoroughly modern building. The center is home to the nation's largest geotechnical centrifuge, ion-implantation and microwave-propagation facilities, several clean rooms, low-turbulence wind tunnels, spectrometers, electron and other microscopes, and a structural analysis facility.

The  is a flexible, cross-disciplinary collaborative space where students can imagine, design, create, and test products and solutions to meet a range of societal and customer needs. The space includes Design Center Colorado and supports student teams working on invention and innovation as part of courses, as well as design and development driven by entrepreneurial-minded individuals and service-oriented groups. With all these students working side-by-side, the Idea Forge boosts student learning through collaborative, hands-on experience, while supporting industry interaction through scheduled workshops as well as spontaneous exchanges. This unique space prepares our students to start the future companies that will fuel Colorado鈥檚 economy and workforce.

The Gallogly 麻豆视频y Learning Center provides a high-tech research and learning laboratory to support our college-wide initiative integrating undergraduates into the research enterprise. The center's 12 advanced laboratories conduct research in fields ranging from biotechnology to unmanned vehicle systems, incorporating students, faculty and industry partners in collaborative research teams.
The Integrated Teaching and Learning (ITL) Program provides hands-on design experience to undergraduates in a unique, award-winning facility. With its open-air plazas, team meeting rooms, and systems that emphasize the 鈥渢he building as a learning tool,鈥 the ITL Laboratory is described by Hewlett-Packard as one of the 鈥渇iner teaching environments on the planet.鈥 The curriculum-driven design supports a variety of learning styles and features first-year design studios, an active learning center, fabrication and testing facilities, group work areas, and student-centered electronics and manufacturing centers. The program hosts design expos where students showcase their innovations and inventions.
The Leonard H. Gemmill Engineering Library, located in the Mathematics Building at the west edge of the Engineering Village, is the largest branch of the University Libraries outside of Norlin Library and features more than 155,000 printed volumes and 96,000 microforms. The library, which opened in 1992, also offers electronic access to information sources around the world.
The Environmental Engineering program recently joined numerous other sustainability programs, institutes and agencies in the Sustainability, Energy and Environment Complex (SEEC) on CU Boulder's East Campus. The building is a national hub for learning, research and innovation in environmental sustainability designed to spur collaboration on global energy and environmental challenges.

The Idea Forge is a flexible, cross-disciplinary collaborative space where students imagine, design, create, and test products and solutions to meet a range of societal and customer needs. The space supports student teams working on invention and innovation as part of courses, as well as design and development driven by entrepreneurial-minded individuals and service-oriented groups.
