CU SHPE Letter to Incoming Students

Dear Buffs,

The purpose of the Society of Hispanic Professional Engineers (SHPE)/MAES at CU Boulder is to promote a world where Hispanics are highly valued and influential as the leading innovators, scientists, mathematicians, and engineers. We all wish you the best in this new chapter in your life, experiencing much more freedoms and responsibilities than one is accustomed to. You will meet many people from all walks of life, and in the process make many new friends. Take pride in your identities, because at CU all are welcome. No matter what happens in your life, the BOLD community and SHPE/MAES are always there to support you. Also get involved, there many different societies and clubs that you can get involved in, there is something at CU for everyone! We all welcome you to CU and hope you enjoy and cherish your time here!

Our Mission

SHPE/MAES CU seeks to empower the Hispanic community to realize its fullest potential and impact the world through STEM awareness while also developing and promoting excellence in education and leadership among engineers and scientists.

Environment/General Meetings

SHPE/MAES consists of active members from all different disciplines in engineering. When in person there will usually be food available as well! We are very welcoming to anyone who is interested in joining us for one of our general meetings. These general meetings are usually bi-weekly, starting usually at the first or second week of the semester. A calendar can be found on the SHPE website, which lists all upcoming meetings. General meetings have many guest speakers from many different backgrounds, and some are not necessarily in STEM. For example, last year some guest speakers gave financial advice for students. There are also national conferences that you can apply to attend. Through the national conferences and the general meetings, there are many opportunities for networking to help support your post college career. This upcoming semester we are luckily going to be able to experience some normalities before the pandemic hits. So you will get to experience BOLD and SHPE at its best!
