Many departments in the College of Engineering & Applied Science (CEAS) will enroll you in a restricted course on few conditions.

  1. There are available seats in the desired course. It is not possible to waitlist for any restricted engineering course.
  2. You meet all necessary course requisites.听 For example if a course has a prerequisite of APPM 1360 or MATH 2300, you must have successfully completed one of those courses to be eligible for enrollment. Please note that some departments may require minimum GPAs or individual course grades in prerequisite coursework for enrollment in their restricted course(s).
  3. You accurately fill out all of the information in the course request forms below.

Exchange students rostered in the CEAS will use these forms to request course enrollments.听 For courses with prerequisite requirements, you must provide syllabi from your home university that demonstrate your academic preparation.听听Exchange students are not limited to the course lists included in these forms.

CU students who are not currently rostered in the CEAS and are working towards an Intra-University Transfer (IUT):听

  • no courses听at the 3000 level and听above can be requested听unless you are enrolled in an engineering minor

Each department manages enrollment for their own restricted courses (e.g., Mechanical Engineering manages all MCEN courses, Civil Engineering all CVEN courses, etc.). Please review the instructions below carefully as they vary by department. If a department is not listed, you are not able to request enrollment in their courses. You will receive an update from the department after registration for current CEAS majors has commenced.听We respectfully ask that you do not contact engineering staff (including the email address listed below) in the meantime.听

Courses that CANNOT be requested:

  • APPM Courses - All APPM courses are open to any student on the CU campus and requests are not necessary.听 Please enroll in APPM courses via听. 听
  • ASEN Courses - All ASEN courses are restricted to students already admitted to the Aerospace or听Integrated Design Engineering (concentration in Aerospace) programs and IUT OnTrack students.听
  • ENES Courses - All ENES courses are restricted to students already rostered in the CEAS.

When You Can Enroll

If you are given permission to enroll in a restricted engineering course, that enrollment may听take place after your enrollment date/window has passed.听 Departments offer students already in the major the opportunity to enroll in their courses first before allowing students outside their major/college access.听 The waiting period could be as short as a few days or as long as several weeks so please plan accordingly.听 Students will always be notified via their colorado.edu email address, so anyone requesting a course should check their official campus email regularly.听

Registration for many Computer Science courses is Reserved for Computer Science majors for the first three weeks of Fall and Spring Registration periods. Enrollment is open to all majors after that three-week Reserve but students can waitlist for most courses. The date that Registration opens to all majors is clearly stated in course information in Class Search.

During the Reserve period, the system does not permit students to waitlist for major-reserved CSCI courses that also have labs or recitations. Please wait until the major-reserve lifts (date in Class Search) to waitlist for major-reserved CSCI courses that also have labs or recitations.
