We wanted to take a moment to acknowledge two unexpected recent losses in our community.
PhD student Michael Brand passed away on Sept. 4 in Boulder. Michael’s positive impact was felt throughout the department through his research with Professor Kelvin Wagner; through his volunteerism with capstone projects, K-12 programs and recruitment events; and through his general kindness and support of his peers at the graduate and undergraduate level.
Ciara Jekel (ElEngr’20) passed away on Sept. 5in Huntington Beach, California. Ciara was very involved in the department as an undergraduateand went on to pursuegraduate studies at the University of California Davis. She was working as a firmware engineer at Pi-Lit, a technology start-up in Tustin, California.
Our thoughts are with Michael and Ciara’s family and friends during this difficult time.
