For the past 10 years, incoming college first-year students have flocked to CU鈥檚 campus to get a taste of college life before the semester begins. After two years of COVID-induced restrictions, the Pathways to Excellence program is back in full swing in 2022.

CMCI students who have completed at least 12 credit hours of CU Boulder course work for a letter grade in any single semester and achieve a term grade point average of 3.75 or better are included on the Dean鈥檚 List. They receive a notation on their transcript and a letter...

For fourth-year student Genevieve Duffy, pursuing a degree in media studies shaped the way she views art, gave her insight into the world of social media and encouraged her to think more deeply about the world. This month, Duffy will graduate with her degree and the honor of being the 2022 Department of Media Studies William W. White Outstanding Senior.

Women鈥檚 history snapshot: Lucile Berkeley Buchanan graduated in 1918 but wasn鈥檛 allowed to walk across the stage with other graduates because she was Black. History overlooked Lucile Berkeley Buchanan, the first African American woman to graduate from the University of Colorado. A dogged CU journalist brought her back to the fore. Tipped off by a newspaper story, Polly McLean, a CU Boulder associate professor of media studies, spent years exhuming Buchanan鈥檚 story and, finally, correcting history.

CMCI Associate Dean of Diversity, Equity and Inclusion Lisa Flores reflects on the history of Blacks and African Americans in the United States鈥攅ncapsulated in the song, 鈥淟ift Every Voice and Sing鈥濃�攁nd urges us to bring that history forward both during, and beyond, Black History Month.
