At CU Boulder, the Center for Teaching & Learning (CTL) and ASSETT offer free and confidential class observations for all educators, including tenured and tenure-track faculty, instructors of all ranks, and graduate student instructors. Observations provide supportive, constructive feedback to help you enhance your teaching and improve student learning experiences.
What to Expect
Our class observations are tailored to your goals and provide actionable insights. Here’s what the process looks like:
- Pre-Observation Meeting: Share your goals and areas of focus for the observation.
- Observation: A CTL or ASSETT consultant will attend your class to observe classroom dynamics, student engagement, and instructional strategies.
- Post-Observation Feedback: Afterward, we’ll meet to discuss strengths, areas for growth, and practical ideas for improvement.
Areas of Focus
Class observations can provide feedback on a variety of topics, including:
- Student Engagement: Techniques to encourage participation and active learning.
- Inclusive Teaching: Creating a welcoming, equitable classroom environment.
- Instructional Strategies: Approaches to teaching that align with your goals.
- Classroom Dynamics: Observations on student-teacher and student-student interactions.
- Course Structure: Suggestions for pacing, clarity, and lesson design.
