PHAB: Secondary Containment for BioCells and Other Hardware

To meet NASA's safety requirements for biological containment, BioCells are typically housed in a Plate Habitat (PHAB) that provides secondary containment. The PHAB is compatible with both BioCells and similar third-party hardware, such as OmniTrays™. The PHAB is available in different configurations to support gas exchange and accommodate newly developed hardware. PHABs are configurable with a variety of vents, seals, and pressure relieve devices allowing either active gas exchange with the environment for example when placed in a 5% CO2 environment such as in SABL or sealed to provide a passive (non-powered) 5% CO2 environment during launch to the ISS. PHABs also provide structural support during launch and return and are compatible with all cold-stowage provided temperature ranges including cryopreservation.
