Materials Science and Engineering (MSE)Ìýresearch in the Department of Civil, Environmental and Architectural Engineering (CEAE) concerns fundamental experimental and theoretical studies at multiple length, spatial, and temporal scales of materials relevant to the CEAE discipline.

As a students in MSE, you are offered a unique opportunity to engage in interdisciplinary materials science research with world-class faculty while focusing your broader graduate studies on a specific area withinÌý CEAE, including architectural engineering, environmental engineering, geotechnical engineering and geomechanics, or structural engineering and structural mechanics.

The MSE interdisciplinary research area offers a wide variety of cutting-edge topics related to traditional and emerging materials systems, experimental methods, and advanced computational analyses. Our graduates pursue careers in both the public and private sector, including positions in national research laboratories, government, and academia.
