After the chaos of the recent US exit, Afghanistan has been much on our minds. Because of decades of war and turbulence, there are already an estimated 2.2 million refugees from Afghanistan, and since early 2021, hundreds of thousands more have fled the country. Most Afghan refugees are in Iran and Afghanistan as well as other parts of the Middle East, but in the coming months, the US expects to resettle at least 37,000 Afghan refugees. At least 1000-2000 refugees are expected to be resettled in Colorado, primarily in the Denver and Colorado Springs areas. A number of local organizations and individuals are working to assist Afghan refugees. Please see our page to see how you can donate to or become involved in these efforts: /cas/resources-help-afghan-refugees. And if you know of an effort or initiative that should be listed here, feel free to drop us a line.Â
