Kazunori Takato Receives Award
At a very memorable CU “Snow-mencement” ceremony on May 9, Mr. Kazunori Takato was recognized for his service to the University, when he was awarded a University Medal, CU’s most prestigious alumni award.
In just over 45 years since he graduated from CU, Mr. Takato has proven to be a solid friend and supporter of the University and the Center for Asian Studies, and countless students, faculty, and staff members have benefited from his hospitality and enthusiasm during that time.
The Center’s closest connection to Mr. Takato began in 2016, when we launched the Asia Internship Program, which sends students to Tokyo (and now Shanghai) for 6 weeks each summer. Mr. Takato has been a staunch supporter of the program through hosting students at Chiyoda Rubber Company, where he is the President and CEO. His interns have developed deep connections to Japan through Mr. Takato’s gracious hospitality, immersion in rich cultural experiences, and introductions to his business associates. Mr. Takato has also helped the internship program grow through personal contributions, both in the form of donations to the University, and through in-kind support by underwriting expenses and holding events.
Mr. Takato also serves as Chair of the Tokyo Chapter of the CU Alumni Association. He has devoted countless hours to networking with CU alumni and has maintained detailed records; in fact, Tokyo is one of the oldest and most successful CU Alumni Association chapters in the world.
Kazunori Takato is a model alumnus, and CU’s strong relationship with Japan would not be what it is today if not for Mr. Takato’s generous spirit and unwavering enthusiasm. You can learn more about his activities in a video created by the Commencement Office (scroll down about halfway).
The Center for Asian Studies is lucky to have a friend in Mr. Takato and looks forward to continuing that relationship. Arigatou gozaimasu, Takato-san!
