- At a press release on July 8, 2021, Reclamation released additional 5-year projections to support drought response planning efforts in the Colorado River Basin, utilizing a decades-long partnership with CADSWES.
- On May 18–26, 2021, about 25 technical experts from Egypt, Sudan and Ethiopia participated in live virtual training on RiverWare and its application to the Nile Basin RiverWare Model. The training was delivered jointly by CADSWES and Oxford University and will assist regional experts in the planning and execution of sustainable management of the Eastern Nile River Basin.
- CADSWES is pleased to announce RiverWare version 8.2, available January 7, 2021. Highlights include: new web service DMI to import data from HDB, USGS or CWMS web services; usability improvements for the model comparison tool; enhanced rule-priority display, plotting and object filtering; and new and improved script actions.
- The American Geophysical Union (AGU) 2020 Fall Meeting was held Dec. 1–17, 2020, in an all-virtual format. PhD candidates Nathan Bonham and David Woodson gave live oral presentations, and CADSWES, Bureau of Reclamation and NCAR researchers presented their collaborative research in a virtual poster session.
- At the Institute for Operations Research and the Management Sciences (INFORMS) 2020 virtual annual meeting, held Nov. 7–13, 2020, Tim Magee of CADSWES presented “Production Cost Model Evaluation with a Hydropower Operations Model.” INFORMS is the leading international association for operations research, management science and analytics.
- “Understanding and managing new risks on the Nile with the Grand Ethiopian Renaissance Dam,” was published in Nature Communications, Oct. 16, 2020. The study identifies risks and benefits of the Grand Ethiopian Renaissance Dam (GERD) to Nile countries and highlights the necessity of coordinated drought planning.
- At a press conference on Sept. 15, 2020, Reclamation Commissioner Brenda Burman and Lower Colorado Regional Director Terry Fulp discussed the latest Colorado River Simulation Systems (CRSS) model forecasts. Decision support tools developed by CADSWES enable Reclamation to make operational decisions based on leading-edge technology and the best available science.
- Collaborators from CADSWES and CU Boulder Civil, Environmental and Architectural Engineering (CEAE) delivered multiple presentations at the 10th annual International Environmental Modelling and Software Society (iEMSs) event, hosted virtually via Zoom from Brussels, Belgium.
