As the European debt crisis reaches an all-time high with Greece moving towards its third bailout, the European Union is on the hot seat. With so much turmoil throughout the Eurozone, CESR Instructor threw himself into exploring the dilemma when he attended the .

鈥淚t was quite interesting to be in the middle of the whole Greece crisis,鈥 Oest said.

Over the course of 11 days, IFDS participants explored the effects of globalization on business in Europe, as well as how European Union decision-making influences business. Faculty and instructors from across the US attended the conference, which took place in Brussels and Amsterdam. Oest was the only attendee from the University of Colorado, but said the participants gelled well as they experienced the culture and worked together.

During the seminar, participants attended a series of lectures, discussions and guided site visits given by local professors and professionals. 鈥淚 learned a lot about the challenges of businesses going global and operating within the European Union. I also got to experience and learn about their culture there.鈥 Oest believes the seminar will help him educate his students on the globalization of business.

Beyond what he learned at the conference, the trip gave him insight into potentially bringing students there for a study abroad class in the future. Based on what he experienced firsthand, Oest believes traveling to Belgium or Netherlands could be a great opportunity for students.

鈥淭he possibility of taking students on a global trip to Brussels or Amsterdam is very real. These places are at the center of the European Union and would be great places to go for anyone interested in learning more about how businesses operate and interact globally.鈥
