Jimmie White

Jimmie White (born in 1979 in Canton, OH) is an interdisciplinary artist, currently studying at the Â鶹ÊÓƵ.  Previous to her focus on art, she worked in the medical field as a paramedic and emergency room technician, this experience gave her new insight into the way people interact with each other and how different gender expression affects those interactions.

Creating two and three-dimensional images, and installations exploring the ideas of how femininity is shaped by politics, religion, and society.

Jimmie loves to share the process of creation and aspires to teach as well as show her art professionally.

When not in the studio she is a dedicated mother, amateur botanist, and movie enthusiast.

Since childhood, I have been making art creating with whatever materials were at hand. This approach always seemed natural to me to move from genre to genre and material to material to bring the images in my head to life. Working in both two-dimensional and three-dimensional media, I have explored the depths of my inner world and processed the world around me.

My work investigates how politics, religion, and society shape feminity and womanhood. I have pursued the dichotomy of the gendered experience through the narrative of personal and shared experience to examine the feminine architype across domestic, cultural, and theological contexts. I draw on statistical data, mythos, metaphors, and lived history. The goal of my artistic endeavor is to create pieces that invite conversations about femininity and women's issues and how the effects go beyond that of the paradigm of those who identify as women and acknowledge the global scale that current events highlight.
