joined our Archaeology faculty last year as a Chancellor’s Post-Doctoral Fellow with an option for tenure track, which she won handily.Ìý Kurnick specializes in ancient Mesoamerica and her research focuses on the creation, perpetuation, and negation of institutionalized social inequality.Ìý Her primary interests include the role of the past in shaping the political present and archaeology as social practice – how, in other words, archaeology can benefit the public.Ìý With David Rogoff, she is co-director of a community archaeology project at the site of Punta Laguna, in Mexico's Yucatan Peninsula.
