When I read poetry, I tried to capture my own feelings." Sarah came to study in the United States from her hometown of Kuwait in 2020, and is currently a sophomore at 鶹Ƶ. She is majoring in biology while studying Korean as a minor. Sarah's love for Korean goes back to her middle school. She studied Korean on her own since middle school, and started studying Korean formally at the university in the Fall semester of 2021.</p> <p>Professor Sangbok Kim, who works in the Department of Asian Languages and Civilizations and teaches Korean at the University, said, “I think she deserves the award. Among the students in my class, her Korean skills were excellent.” Then, he said, "In fact, she was a student who enjoyed learning more than what was taught in class. She always actively participated in class activities. Even after completing the Korean language courses, she is currently participating in the 'Korean Conversation Table' on Wednesdays in Fall 2022." He praised Sarah's great efforts to learn Korean language and culture.</p> <p>Sarah, who loves Korean songs as much as Korean, won the Best Performance Award for producing a witty music video for the Asian Language Night 2021 hosted by the Department of Asian Language and Civilizations. Aside from Korean and her native language, Arabic, she can speak English, Chinese, French, Japanese, and German. When asked about her future dreams, she said, "I want to make use of my linguistic talents, and after majoring in biology at the University,&nbsp;I want to study at a medical school and ultimately help people around the world as a competent neurosurgeon."</p> <p>&nbsp;</p></div> </div> </div> </div> </div> <div>Traditional</div> <div>0</div> <div>On</div> <div>White</div> Thu, 27 Oct 2022 15:47:58 +0000 Anonymous 480 at /alc Chinese and Japanese Honor Societies 2022 /alc/2022/04/13/chinese-and-japanese-honor-societies-2022 <span>Chinese and Japanese Honor Societies 2022</span> <span><span>Anonymous (not verified)</span></span> <span><time datetime="2022-04-13T12:02:34-06:00" title="Wednesday, April 13, 2022 - 12:02">Wed, 04/13/2022 - 12:02</time> </span> <div> <div class="imageMediaStyle focal_image_wide"> <img loading="lazy" src="/alc/sites/default/files/styles/focal_image_wide/public/article-thumbnail/tassels.jpg?h=a0f08461&amp;itok=a3It4Plb" width="1200" height="600" alt="tassels on the table"> </div> </div> <div role="contentinfo" class="container ucb-article-categories" itemprop="about"> <span class="visually-hidden">Categories:</span> <div class="ucb-article-category-icon" aria-hidden="true"> <i class="fa-solid fa-folder-open"></i> </div> <a href="/alc/taxonomy/term/71"> Department News </a> </div> <div role="contentinfo" class="container ucb-article-tags" itemprop="keywords"> <span class="visually-hidden">Tags:</span> <div class="ucb-article-tag-icon" aria-hidden="true"> <i class="fa-solid fa-tags"></i> </div> <a href="/alc/taxonomy/term/85" hreflang="en">Chinese</a> <a href="/alc/taxonomy/term/117" hreflang="en">Honor Societies</a> <a href="/alc/taxonomy/term/83" hreflang="en">Japanese</a> <a href="/alc/taxonomy/term/73" hreflang="en">Student News</a> </div> <div class="ucb-article-content ucb-striped-content"> <div class="container"> <div class="paragraph paragraph--type--article-content paragraph--view-mode--default"> <div class="ucb-article-content-media ucb-article-content-media-above"> <div> <div class="paragraph paragraph--type--media paragraph--view-mode--default"> </div> </div> </div> <div class="ucb-article-text d-flex align-items-center" itemprop="articleBody"> <div><p>The following students&nbsp;have&nbsp;been&nbsp;inducted into&nbsp;<a href="http://clta-us.org/the-national-collegiate-chinese-honor-society/" rel="nofollow">the National Collegiate Chinese Honor Society</a>.&nbsp;The National Chinese Honor Society College Chapter, sponsored by the Chinese Language Teachers Association, USA (CLTA), is founded to recognize the outstanding academic achievement of college students in learning Chinese as a second language, to encourage them to continue to study Chinese after they graduate from college, and to promote the study of Chinese language, literature, and culture in the United States.&nbsp;Students must have enrolled in the sixth semester&nbsp;of the Chinese course, maintain a GPA&nbsp; in Chinese language and must have an overall GPA of 3.0 at time of nomination.&nbsp;Accepted students received an electronic certificate, and the name of each accepted student are now listed on the webpage for the National Chinese Honor Society College Chapter at the CLTA website.</p> <ul> <li>Kat Chavez</li> <li>Anna Iwanciw</li> <li>Emma Teehan</li> </ul> <p>The following seven students have been inducted into&nbsp;<a href="https://www.aatj.org/jnhs" rel="nofollow">the Japanese National Honor Society – College Chapter (JNHS-CC)</a>.&nbsp; The Japanese National Honor Society recognizes and encourages achievement and excellence in the study of the Japanese language.&nbsp; The society is administered by the American Association of Teachers of Japanese (AATJ), and membership is recognized as a national achievement.
