Esteemed Scholars Program

When she was in high school, Emily Schaldach diligently studied and earned high grades with the goal of attending CUĀ Boulder. As a freshman at CUĀ Boulder, her outstanding academic achievements are recognized by being named to theĀ , a merit-based scholarship program for top Colorado freshmen.

Schaldach, from Durango, is majoring in integrated physiology with a minor in leadership and is in theĀ Ā housed in Arnett Hall in the Kittredge Complex. She also is taking honors courses and is a member of theĀ , a specially designed academic curriculum that focuses on leadership and personal development.

ā€œItā€™s nice to know that all the hard work I did in high school is paying off,ā€ said Schaldach. ā€œBeing an Esteemed Scholar is such an honor and it helps my family financially.ā€

The CUĀ Boulder Esteemed Scholars Program is awarded to a select group of entering resident freshmen students based on a combination of grade-point average and test scores. Schaldach is in the programā€™s inaugural class of about 900 students. Her GPA in high school was 4.2.

Not all of her time is spent studying, however. Schaldach races mountain bikes and road bikes as a member ofĀ Ā and is an avid downhill and backcountry skier.

ā€œI love meeting new people and building communities on campus,ā€ said Schaldach. ā€œThere are so many interesting and cool people who come to CU in many different ways.ā€
